Today marked another delightful chapter in our journey through Chennai, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and unexpected encounters. The six of us, a mix of Bhutanese and Myanmar friends, embarked on a shopping adventure that unfolded into an unforgettable experience.
In the morning, our eager footsteps led us to the Cotton House shop near the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) in Chennai. This establishment, adorned with a diverse array of clothing, became a treasure trove for our shopping spree. Three of us from Bhutan and our three friends from Myanmar scoured the racks, excitedly picking out numerous jeans and shirts that caught our fancy. The highlight, however, was when our friends from Myanmar chose exquisite saris as presents for their families back home.
The Cotton House, with its commitment to diversity in clothing, provided us with a palette of choices that mirrored our eclectic group. The morning escapade set the tone for the day, leaving us in high spirits as we embarked on the next leg of our Chennai exploration.
Our afternoon led us to the bustling Phoenix Mall Market City, a hub of commerce and fashion. As we entered, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air, drawing us towards a cozy café at the entrance. Energized by caffeine, we began our exploration of the vast shopping complex, a mecca for fashion enthusiasts.
However, reality struck as we encountered the opulence within the mall. High-end brands and luxurious items lined the shelves, showcasing a world seemingly distant from our middle-income reality. Undeterred, we engaged in strategic window shopping, marveling at the high price tags while opting for more affordable items that suited our budgets.
Amidst the glamour of Phoenix Mall, our friend Sangay Tshering stood out, literally draped in a newfound luxury—a branded coat worth Rs. 6000. His purchase, a testament to the blend of extravagance and practicality we navigated through during our shopping spree.
Yet, the real surprise awaited us in the form of the enchanting beauties we encountered. In the heart of the shopping complex, we found ourselves captivated by the presence of stunning girls who seemed to embody ethereal grace. It turned out that they hailed mostly from Manipur and had been working as sale girl for about 3-5 years, they are fluent in English and their appearance strangely reminiscent of our Bhutanese charms.
In the midst of our astonishment, we couldn't resist striking up conversations with these angels. The day took an unexpected turn as Mr. Chorten Thinley, overwhelmed by the allure of these beautiful girls, humorously declared his intention to offer them to Kenchosum. Laughter echoed through the shopping complex as he playfully exaggerated his admiration for their beauty.
As the day unfolded, we found ourselves not only laden with shopping bags but also with memories of unexpected encounters and shared laughter. Chennai, with its vibrant markets and diverse attractions, had given us a day to remember—a throbbing enjoyment that left us eagerly anticipating the adventures that awaited us in the days to come.
