Today marked an exciting chapter in our journey at the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR). On the 9th of December 2023, participants were treated to a delightful day of sightseeing, exploring the cultural and historical gems of Mysuru.
Our adventure commenced with a visit to the renowned Mysuru Zoo, officially known as the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens. Nestled in the heart of Mysuru, this zoo has a rich history dating back to 1892 when it was established by the then Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar. Covering an expansive area of 157 acres, the zoo is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including exotic species from around the globe.
Walking through the well-maintained pathways, we marveled at the fascinating creatures housed within the zoo. From majestic elephants to colorful birds, every exhibit showcased the institute's commitment to wildlife conservation and education. The Mysuru Zoo stands as a testament to the city's dedication to preserving its natural heritage.
Following the enchanting visit to the zoo, our next stop was the historic St. Philomena's Church. This architectural marvel is one of the largest churches in India and holds immense significance in the cultural landscape of Mysuru. Built in the neo-gothic style, the church's construction began in 1933 under the supervision of Bishop Rene Feuga. The church was consecrated in 1941 and is dedicated to Saint Philomena, a third-century martyr.
As we stepped into the grandeur of St. Philomena's Church, the towering spires and intricate stained glass windows left an indelible impression. The solemn atmosphere inside, coupled with the rich history of the church, provided a serene moment for reflection and admiration of the city's architectural and religious heritage.
Our journey through Mysuru's cultural tapestry continued with a visit to the illustrious Mysuru Palace. Officially known as the Amba Vilas Palace, this opulent structure is a testament to the city's royal past. The palace was commissioned in 1897 by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and completed in 1912. It stands as an architectural masterpiece, blending Indo-Saracenic, Rajput, and Gothic styles.
Walking through the intricately carved archways and ornate chambers, we were transported back in time to an era of royal grandeur. The Mysuru Palace, with its sprawling gardens and ornamental façade, narrates a story of the Wadiyar dynasty's opulence and cultural patronage.
As the day unfolded, we found ourselves captivated by the rich history and vibrant culture of Mysuru. The evening concluded with a sense of fulfillment and admiration for the city's heritage. We spent the night in Mysuru, relishing the memories of the day's exploration.

The morning of the 10th brought with it a mixture of nostalgia and anticipation as we prepared to journey back to NITTTR Chennai. A day-long trip awaited us, traversing the scenic landscapes that had welcomed us just days before.
As we bid farewell to Mysuru, the vehicle journey unfolded like a moving canvas, showcasing the diverse beauty of the Indian terrain. The camaraderie among participants made the hours pass swiftly as we exchanged anecdotes from our memorable trip.
Upon our return to the NITTTR guest house in Chennai, a sense of familiarity enveloped us. The water, which had been drained for maintenance during our absence, now flowed effortlessly, signaling the return to our routine. The guest house, once again bustling with activity, mirrored the vibrant atmosphere that the NITTTR community exudes.
Exhausted from the journey, we welcomed the comfort of our beds and the familiar surroundings of the guest house. The tiredness from our travels was met with the satisfaction of a journey well-spent, filled with enriching experiences and cultural revelations.
In retrospect, the excursion to Mysuru served as not only a break from our academic pursuits but also a journey through time and culture. The memories forged during those two days will undoubtedly linger, serving as a testament to the rich tapestry of experiences that NITTTR offers its participants.
