Today marked a comprehensive exploration of strategic planning and a profound understanding of the intricacies of the human mind. The day commenced with an insightful session led by Professor Suresh, delving into the nuances of strategic planning and team building.
In the morning session, we delved into the steps involved in strategic planning, dissecting strategic planning models such as the top-down and bottom-up approaches. A key aspect discussed was aligning strategic plans with the national strategic plan. Professor Suresh also emphasized the critical role of assessing the internal and external environment through the SWOT analysis—Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.
The class absorbed the importance of strategic planning as a dynamic process, crucial for organizational success. The interactive nature of the lecture facilitated engaging discussions on real-world applications of strategic planning.
In the afternoon, Professor Dr. G. Janardhanan took the stage to enlighten us on the intricacies of the human mind. He categorized the mind into three facets: the intellectual side, emotional side, and ethical side. To better understand these aspects, we participated in a thought-provoking activity—the boat game.
In this simulation, we were introduced to five pivotal roles on a boat: the captain, a hospital owner, an industrialist, a seasoned politician, and an 80-year-old lady proficient in native medicine. As the boat crashed, we found ourselves stranded on a floating ice sheet surrounded by sharks, forcing us to decide whom to drop from the boat due to limited capacity.
The ensuing discussions were intense as we debated the importance of each role and why each person should or should not be dropped. Professor Janardhanan cleverly incorporated a visual element by presenting a pictorial diagram, revealing two faces—an old lady and a young girl. This exercise led to a revelation: the identification of the faces correlated with certain characteristics. The young girl represented individuals who are intelligent and far-sighted but might encounter trouble in the system, while the old lady symbolized passionate individuals who navigate the system adeptly. The conclusion drawn was that both types of people are indispensable in addressing complex issues.

The following day commenced with Professor Rajendran shedding light on outcome-based education and the business of mission. The session focused on the purpose of mission and the values associated with it, emphasizing the importance of aligning education with tangible outcomes.
In the afternoon, Professor Dr. P. Malliga guided us through the realm of immersive technology, covering augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality. The discussion extended to Industry 5.0 and Education 5.0, underscoring the transformative impact of immersive technologies in these domains.
A practical session ensued, with hands-on experience in augmented and virtual reality using Unity and Unreal software engines. The laboratory session provided a platform to apply theoretical knowledge, fostering a deeper understanding of the practical aspects of immersive technologies.
As the day concluded, we reflected on the breadth of knowledge gained, spanning from strategic planning and team dynamics to the immersive world of augmented and virtual reality. The interdisciplinary nature of the ITEC program continued to broaden our perspectives, preparing us for the dynamic challenges of the contemporary professional landscape.
